Yesterday, the Queen sent a message of gratitude to Gibraltar as the couple arrived at the Rock.

Her Majesty said in a message disclosed by Windsor Castle:

“Over the years I have watched Gibraltar prosper as a multi-cultural and multi-faith community, proud of its rich history while dynamic and forward-looking.”

As she wished it “future happiness and prosperity,” the monarch said she was “pleased to reaffirm the close ties” between “the Crown and the people of Gibraltar.”

Their Royal Highnesses will also speak to key personnel from British Forces Gibraltar and spend time with the local people.

Gibraltarian Ms A Smart told the Conservative Post:

“We love the royals and every time a member of the royal family visits, it’s a real honour.

“We’re very proud to be British and it means a lot to see them here especially after all the jubilee celebrations at the weekend. It’s royal fever over here at the moment. We love it.”
