GREAT BRITISH NEWS: Top positive news stories from across the UK this week

We hope everyone had a truly lovely Christmas. Amid the festivities, family gatherings and moments of calm, many of us will have taken a brief pause from the relentless churn of politics.

And perhaps that pause was welcome, because once again, finding good news under this Labour government has not been easy.

Over Christmas, the pickings were slim. But here at the Conservative Post, we love bringing you the good news every week, and even in a week dominated by mince pies and mismanagement, there were still a few moments worth celebrating.

As ever, the list of mishaps, U-turns and embarrassments spilling out of Clowning Street continues to grow, while the genuinely positive headlines grow shorter. Yet we refuse to give in to the gloom. We must keep celebrating the wins, even when they are few and far between, because those wins remind us of something Labour cannot erase: Britain remains a force to be reckoned with. While this government dithers and diminishes us on the world stage, real achievements are still happening across the country, and we remain proud of them.

One of the clearest victories of the week came from the countryside, where Labour was finally humiliated into a climbdown over its proposed farm tax after months of relentless tractor protests. British farmers, long ignored and increasingly burdened by this government, stood their ground and were heard. It was a reminder that when ordinary people organise, persist and refuse to be brushed aside, even the most stubborn ministers can be forced to retreat.

Politically, there was another flicker of encouragement as the Conservatives edged ahead of Labour in the poll tracker for the first time since Boris Johnson. It may only be a snapshot, but it speaks to a broader shift in mood. The public is growing weary of broken promises, economic confusion and ideological stubbornness, and that weariness is beginning to show.

There was also a moment of genuine warmth and national unity as the Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte struck a perfect festive chord, sharing a surprise piano duet at the Together at Christmas service. In a season that is meant to be about hope, kindness and continuity, it was a beautiful reminder of the quiet strength and grace the Royal Family continues to bring to the nation. Did you also see the video footage of the Royal children during a walkabout after Church on Christmas Day? What lovely kids. Our country is in good royal hands for the future.

Across the Atlantic, the economic contrast could not have been starker from Labour’s mess. The US economy surged ahead at 4.3 per cent over Christmas, leaving lefty pundits red-faced and forecasters scrambling. While Labour ministers here talk Britain down, can’t get to grasps with the Laffer curve and manage expectations ever lower, others are proving that confidence, clarity and pro-growth policies still matter. Good news for Conservatism. Well done to our friends across the pond.

And, of course, there was sporting pride to lift the spirits as England delivered a Boxing Day belting down under, with Stokes’s boys triumphing over Australia in a performance full of grit, swagger and determination. Even thousands of miles from home, the English fighting spirit shone through.

These are the stories that should be making the headlines. They show a country that continues to lead, achieve and thrive, even under a Labour government that seems determined to sap confidence at every turn. Britain’s strength does not come from ministerial spin or festive soundbites. It comes from its people, its traditions, its resilience and its refusal to accept decline as inevitable.

So as we head towards the end of the year, we say it once again: stay strong. This awful period will not last forever. Governments come and go, but the character of this country endures. We will keep bringing you the good news every week, because Britain is still standing tall, still winning, and still very much worth celebrating.

  1. The Conservatives need to start a campaign to deport Alaa Abd el-fattah. He said that the British are dogs and monkeys!
