Calling all conservatives to join PopCon

Conservatives are agreed on the goals we seek. Lower taxes, less burdensome regulation, more efficient public services and a vibrant, growing economy.

But much of the UK’s legal and institutional framework mitigates against achieving these goals.

A government which is committed to achieving conservative ends will find itself up against an entrenched set of state bodies and quangos which lean into supporting a bigger state, high taxes and ever more red tape.

The OBR, the Equalities Act, the Treasury, large swathes of the civil service, the ECHR and a host of other groups make achieving meaningful reform on enormous task.

Conservatives are playing a football match with an unsympathetic referee, a sloping pitch against them and only eight or nine players on the field.

Conservatives are playing a football match with an unsympathetic referee, a sloping pitch against them and only eight or nine players on the field. It’s not totally impossible to score an occasional goal, but it’s very difficult to win a match.

JOIN: PopCon will be a mass movement of those who wish to bring about major institutional change in Britain in order to make it much easier to achieve our long-term social and economic ends.
